TWDB Approves $222M in Funding for Corpus Christi Desalination Project
On July 23, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approved $222 million in multi-year financial assistance for the City of Corpus Christi to assist in the permitting, procurement, design, and construction of a seawater desalination plant near the Inner Harbor Ship Channel. The plant is slated to produce 20 million gallons of drinking water per day.
The funding is from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT). The program was created by the Texas Legislature to support projects in the state water plan with affordable financial assistance.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources.
The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control and agricultural water conservation projects.
