Tricia Hatley Joins MATHCOUNTS Foundation Board of Directors
Tricia Hatley has joined the Board of Directors for the MATHCOUNTS Foundation as a representative of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), where she recently completed her term as President.
NSPE is a founding partner of MATHCOUNTS, which is targeted toward helping students in grades six through eight cultivate a love for advanced math skills that are critical for engineering students’ success. The board includes past MATHCOUNTS competitors, professionals from sponsoring organizations, parents, coaches and NSPE members.
The organization offers a math competition that allows children to compete locally, at the state level and then nationally. The math competitions also have a math video challenge component in which teams create a video showing a real-world application of a MATHCOUNTS problem solution.
Trish has been involved with MATHCOUNTS since the eighth grade, when she participated in her school’s team preparations for a local competition. From there, she became a math competition volunteer for the Texas Society of Professional Engineers in Fort Worth and later served as Chapter Coordinator for the Preston Trail Chapter of TSPE, where she received an award for Best Coordinator in the State of Texas. Trish also served on the TSPE State MATHCOUNTS Committee for many years helping to organize and execute the state competition.
