Rules Released for $6.875B in Mitigation Funding

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released mandatory rules for the use of $6.875 billion in Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds for mitigation projects across multiple states.

Here’s a partial breakdown by state or click here to view the rules. Next steps include the creation of Action Plans by each state or local government recipient.

Georgia

How much: $26.96 million
What for: Mitigation related to Federal Disaster Nos. 4294, 4297 and 4338

Louisiana

How much: $1.2 billion
What for: In response to Federal Disaster Nos. 4263, 4277 and 4272
State Action Plan Deadline: Feb. 3, 2020

North Carolina

How much: $168 million
What for: In response to Federal Disaster Nos. 4285
State Action Plan Deadline: Feb. 3, 2020

South Carolina

How much: $157.59 million
What for: In response to Federal Disaster Nos. 4241 and 4286
State Action Plan Deadline: Feb. 3, 2020
SC local government grantees: The City of Columbia, Lexington & Richland Counties
What for: In response to Federal Disaster No. 4241
Local government Action Plan Deadline: March 2, 2020

Texas

How much: $4.383 billion
What for: In response to Federal Disaster Nos. 4223, 4245, 4266, 4269, 4272 and 4332
State Action Plan Deadline: Feb. 3, 2020
Texas local government grantees: Houston and San Marcos
What for: In response to Federal Disaster Nos. 4223 and 4245
Local government Action Plan Deadline: March 2, 2020

Once prepared, the action plans are then sent to HUD for approval. This process is expected to take at least nine months given the number of rules required in HUD’s Federal Register notice.
