Martinez IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Wins ACEC Texas Engineering Excellence Award
Congratulations to the project team for the Martinez IV Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has received an Engineering Excellence Silver Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Texas.
The Martinez IV project increases treatment capacity for the San Antonio River Authority’s service area in eastern Bexar County, which is experiencing rapid residential growth. At the same time, the project achieved measurable progress in treatment sustainability. It was rated Envision Silver by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure — the first wastewater treatment plant in Texas to receive such a recognition.

Martinez IV was completed using the design-build delivery method, which is uncommon for wastewater treatment plan projects. This method facilitated successful implementation of an accelerated project and provided important contractor insight for sustainable features. The innovative approaches have reduced energy use, waste, operational and maintenance costs, and capital costs for future phases.
