Lydia Ward Named PENC Northwest Chapter Young Engineer of the Year
Congratulations to Lydia Ward, Environmental Science, Winston-Salem, who has been recognized as 2022 Young Engineer of the Year by the Northwest Chapter of Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC).
This award is given to members who have performed exceptional services for the public, the profession, the organization, and who best exemplify the ideal image of the young engineer. Lydia was recognized at the PENC Summer Conference on June 10.
Lydia has worked on a range of project types while at Freese and Nichols, from stream restoration, bank stabilization, erosion assessments, environmental permitting to stormwater modeling and design, and water/wastewater transmission utilities. She has participated in various stream clean-ups and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity several times.
Lydia currently acts as the Community Involvement liaison for the Winston-Salem FNI office, planning quarterly events for the office staff. She has been a member of PENC since 2019 and began her service on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Chapter of PENC in 2021. She was nominated for this award by her fellow board members.
