North Texas TSPE Honors Three Freese and Nichols Engineers for Service

Congratulations to three Freese and Nichols engineers recently recognized by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers Fort Worth and Preston Trail chapters during Engineer Week festivities.

The TSPE Fort Worth chapter presented water/wastewater master planning engineer Alec Propst with its Richard Van Trump Award. Selected by the chapter president and established in 1971, the award honors exemplary members for their service the previous year. The Fort Worth chapter also recognized past president and Freese and Nichols stormwater engineer Matt Giglio with a gavel plaque for his service as chapter president for the 2023-2024 year.

The TSPE Preston Trail Chapter presented its Young Engineer of the Year award to Freese and Nichols stormwater engineer Jorge Gallosa Jr. The Young Engineer of the Year award is presented to chapter members under 35 for their outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and community.

Since 2023, Alec has served as the TSPE Fort Worth chapter treasurer. In his nearly four years with Freese and Nichols, the Engineer-In-Training has contributed to water/wastewater master planning projects and developing long-term and data-driven plans that support sustainable water systems. While in college, Alec served as the health and safety officer to an Engineers Without Borders team based in Bolivia.

Jorge has been with Freese and Nichols for nine years, contributing to numerous stormwater utility studies, master plan models, TxDOT roadway designs and regional flood planning efforts. Previously, he also helped municipalities develop funding alternatives and fee structures to support their stormwater needs. Since 2017, Jorge has served numerous roles on the TSPE Preston Trail board of directors, including as finance chair, audit chair, and website and publicity chair.    He is also a member of the Texas Floodplain Management Association and the American Public Works Association.

Matt has been with Freese and Nichols for nearly eight years. He’s worked on various stormwater projects, including planning studies, H&H analyses, and design for municipal drainage projects and watershed studies. In 2023, the City of Fort Worth’s Hazardous Roadway Overtopping Mitigation, which he contributed to, received the Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the Texas ACEC Engineering Excellence Award Gold Medal. He is a former TSPE Fort Worth Richard Van Trump Award recipient, Young Engineer of the Year honoree, chapter president, director of membership, vice president of public relations, treasurer and director of education. Matt is also a member and presenter for the Texas Floodplain Management Association.

Alec and Matt were recognized at a joint banquet of the Fort Worth and Mid-Cites chapters hosted on Feb. 20 in Fort Worth. Jorge received his award on Feb. 19 at a joint event hosted by the Preston Trails and Dallas chapters in Plano.
