Facilities Team Completes New Memorial Wall for Texas DPS
The Texas Department of Public Safety unveiled a new memorial wall at its headquarters in Austin as part of its Fallen Officers Memorial.
Dedicated in May to officers who died in the line of duty, the memorial was designed in part by Freese and Nichols’ facilities team and includes two components: a pink granite monument encircling a bronze statue outside the building and the display wall located inside in the main lobby.
Our team designed the interior display, which includes plaques for each fallen officer placed along a limestone wall, allowing space for the installation of future plaques.
The wall includes lighting systems to illuminate the plaques, allowing for easy readability and decorative effect during the evening. A cabinet at the base of the wall displays seals and badges for the various DPS law enforcement components, including the Texas Highway Patrol and Texas Rangers.
The department presented the new memorial at the annual Peace Officers Memorial Service. In a press release, DPS called them “a permanent place to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their fellow Texans.”
