Sharing Effective Tools for Taming Wastewater Data in Rocky Mountain Water
Members of Freese and Nichols’ wastewater planning team offer advice on innovative technology tools that utility operators can use to effectively and affordably manage their data in a new article published by Rocky Mountain Water magazine.
The article, “Foundations of Wastewater Planning: Innovative Tools to Effectively Manage and Visualize Data,” is the cover story in the magazine’s September/October issue, written by Jessica Brown, Kendall Ryan, Ishita Rahman and Isabella Stubbs.
The magazine is published jointly by the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association and the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association.
The team demonstrates its deep understanding of the critical role data plays in developing infrastructure improvements and ways to harness it to improve communication and efficiency.
They write:
“Utility owners and operators need insightful data to make informed decisions and to effectively communicate the business case for spending tax dollars on major and necessary projects. But the more data you collect and store, the more you need to effectively manage and visualize large amounts of information. Adopting the right tools and using them moving forward makes master planning more effective by simplifying tasks and providing better insights into short- and long-term needs.”
Using clear explanations and sample illustrations, the team explains how to leverage dashboards, mapping and inventory tools, and mobile apps, including Microsoft Power BI and Excel, and ArcGIS Field Maps and Experience Builder, to accomplish data-driven tasks such as wastewater flow monitoring and projection and field asset survey and inventory development.
Freese and Nichols’ Denver office opened in 2023 and continues to expand rapidly.
