Top 100 Internship Programs, Nationally Honored Interns
Freese and Nichols is leading the way with the announcement of placing in WayUp and Yello’s Top 100 Internship Programs with two Top Interns for 2024. This marks the second year we have earned a spot on the list, and the fourth year we have been nominated.
The evaluation was based 30% on public votes and 70% on an expert panel’s review of applications.
This recognition is confirmation that we are building upon an excellent legacy of years of internships. An internship at Freese and Nichols has evolved as a recruiting exercise for potential new graduate talent.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our team has shown in making our internship program exceptional, says JaNette Bridgewater, HR Director, Fort Worth. ”Their relentless efforts have been recognized again, earning us a spot in the Top 100 Internship Programs list for the second consecutive year.”
This year, we welcomed more than 90 interns to 23 Freese and Nichols offices. They spent the summer learning skills in our many practice areas and doing real work for clients.
To our class of ’24, thank you for making your mark.

Abigail Kubin
This marks the second straight year Abigail Kubin has been recognized, and she is grateful for this honor. She is a rising senior studying mechanical engineering at the University of Tennessee in Martin.
“Being recognized as a Top 100 Intern for the second consecutive year is an incredible honor that validates my hard work and dedication, motivating me to continue striving for excellence,” Abigail says.
Last summer, Abigail interned in our Transmission and Utilities group in Dallas. These past two summers have shaped her future goals by reinforcing her passion for civil engineering.
“Throughout this journey, I have learned more about myself and my talents, discovering strengths I did not know I possessed,” Abigail says. “It has also helped me better understand how I can contribute these skills in my future career.
Abigail’s supervisor, Cullen Carlson, W/WW Master Planning, Dallas, shares that she was an amazing addition to their team this summer.
“She not only met our expectations but consistently exceeded them. She was proactive from the beginning when she developed and shared a list of goals that she aimed to accomplish this summer,” Cullen says.
“When working on assignments, she was not content with meeting the minimums of the request but was innovative and always went the extra mile to deliver and amazing product. She took a leadership role in welcoming and teaching young students during the Bring Your Kids to Work Day.”
The 1161 W/WW Master Planning Group Manager, Mazen Kawasmi says Abigail contributed to the group’s overall objectives through her exceptional dedication, innovative thinking and collaborative spirit.
“Abigail’s ability to integrate seamlessly into the team and effective communication skills fostered a positive and productive work environment,” Mazen says. “Her contributions met and often exceeded our expectations, driving the group toward achieving its goals more effectively. Abigail’s impact has been invaluable, and her efforts have set a high standard for future interns.”
Isabella Falcon Gonzalez
Isabella Falcon Gonzalez is a rising junior studying civil engineering at Texas Tech University. This summer, she joined the Structural Group in Fort Worth. She will be joining us this fall and will work out of the Lubbock office.
“This recognition not only validates the effort I’ve invested in this internship with Freese and Nichols but also motivates me to continue pursuing excellence in a field I’m deeply passionate about,” Isabella says.
This summer, she says the invaluable hands-on experience she gained gave her a clearer vision of the impact she wants to make in the industry. Once she graduates with her bachelor of science in civil engineering, she wants to pursue a master’s in structural engineering.
“The mentorship and practical knowledge I’ve gained from the 1125 group have strengthened my resolve to contribute to innovative engineering solutions in the future,” Isabella says.
Her supervisor, Amy Raines, Structural, Fort Worth, says Isabella has a great attitude and is a pleasure to work with.
Another supervisor, Austin Poole, Structural, Fort Worth, says Isabella’s work ethic, desire to gain technical knowledge and communication skills make her an excellent team member.
“She is like a sponge in the sense that she absorbs everything around her. She is eager to learn and would spend time thinking through the process to develop a deep understanding,” says Austin.
In the spirit of one of our LEADS Values, Learn Continuously, Austin says Isabella never shied away from learning new things.
