Freese and Nichols Project Office Opens in Virginia

Freese and Nichols expands its presence along the East Coast with the opening of a project office in Alexandria, Virginia to support work for FEMA. In 2021 as part of the Advancing Resilience in Communities Joint Venture (ARC JV), Freese and Nichols was awarded a five-year, $300 million-maximum value indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract to provide engineering services to help reduce flood risk. The firm has hired a local Stormwater Project Manager, Soheyl Borjian, PhD, to work on the FEMA project and is seeking to hire more staff in Alexandria.

Located in the Old Town historic district near the Potomac River waterfront and a Metrorail station, our new office is also near the FEMA office in downtown Washington, DC, as well as the office of Michael Baker International, managing partner on the project.

Freese and Nichols is currently providing architecture and engineering services to generate and evaluate flood hazard and risk information, and support for the development and implementation of mitigation, planning, flood mapping and modeling activities in Zone 1 for FEMA’s Risk Map Program. Additionally, the firm is currently evaluating the local market for potential expansion beyond FEMA, including LID streambank opportunities and municipal work around Chesapeake Bay and in Maryland.
