EPA’s New Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) Are in Effect

As of December 16, 2021, the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) are officially in effect. The release of the LCRR includes the EPA’s strengthened regulatory framework on lead in drinking water, which follows the agency’s review of the Lead and Copper Rule and a series of public engagement activities earlier this year. In order to meet compliance, local water systems and state primacy agencies are required to develop lead service line inventories for submission to the EPA by October 16, 2024.

Additionally, the EPA has announced it intends to develop a follow-on rule, Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) by October 2024 with additional requirements for lead service line replacement.
